100% of the registration fees will go to two sustainable development projects in Africa: Facilitation of water supply in Tansania and setting up a maternity clinic in Burkina Faso
Tansania: Water supply for 25,000 people
"Water for Life" coined by the UN in 2005: is supposed to help the awareness that the access to drinking water is one of the most elementary human needs.
The project is overseen by Father Athanas, a Benedictine priest who has dedicated his life to the service of the people in East Africa for nearly 40 years. Besides his pastoral activities he exerts himself above all for the strengthening of the small farmers. According to Father Athanas, the rural poverty can be fought successfully if small farmers can be self sufficient and sell their harvest gainfully for a fair market price.

To reach this purpose, Father Athanas is politically and economically engaged and already has made a lot of progress. His success is found in the case of the coffee farmers, where today their product is sold comparable to the global market price. The small farmers benefit through the attainment of long term independence. However it is apparent that access to water plays a key role in their success.
That's why a water project which aids 25,000 inhabitants of Soni and its surroundings has been chosen as a benefactor of this year’s run proceeds. Years ago a water system to supply the villages had been built, but the quality of the water especially during rainy season, is so bad that the women have to walk many kilometers each day to reach to the Mkuss river, the " sweet waters “, as one says in Suaheli, thus a closeby and healthy water source is very important.
The current goal is to develop a supply of water to the surronding villages using an existing dam at the Mkuss river. The project will study the effects of the supply of clean water in hopes to encourage further support of government and other organisations.
This project is an essential contribution to the small farmers and local inhabitants, striving for a better way of life.
Burkina Faso: Setting up a maternity clinic
With the second project we support the work of Wunschträume e.V. at Pétessiro/Burkina Faso. This NGO has enhance the medical supply since 2006 by setting up an emergency war. The donations will be used to set up the badly needed maternity clinic.
